But don’t let that stop you from watching this incredible film when you have the first opportunity. The focus on the brutalization of women can come across as misogynistic, especially when MARTYRS is taken into account. Your answer will depend upon your interpretation of the final shot. When Laugier made Martyrs, he made what many to consider to be a modern horror masterpiece, so right off the bat, that’s a lot to live up to, and it’s unrealistic to expect that kind of lightning in a bottle on a consistent basis. ‘Happy Halloween: A Halloween Kills Fan Film’ Brings the Terror and the Brutal Kills [Video], Here’s How to Get Your ‘Friday the 13th’ Blu-ray Collection Replacement Discs from Scream Factory, ‘Hell Fest’ Director and FaZe Clan Conjure Up Evil Clown Horrors in Feature Film ‘Crimson’ [Trailer]. Soon after, hell is unleashed onto the family. From its … It works as a vehicle to remind viewers that trauma can damage the human psyche, but Ghostland doesn’t seem to have anything to say beyond that. Vera is more of a rebellious figure, and more willing to talk back to her mother when warranted or flip a passing candy truck the finger. Incident In A Ghostland. October 15, 2020 ; Horror Film Reviews; Horror Features. It is somewhat baffling to still be discussing archaic issues such as transphobia and misogyny during horror’s so-called golden age, when mainstream critics are applauding the genre for being more progressive, inclusive, and intellectual.
